Regardless of the reason for this chukar showing up in Stratham, the great thing about these kinds of sightings is they make you realize how fluid our world is. Every year there are numerous reports of birds sighted in New England that shouldn’t be here - accidental migrants, rare sightings - Mississippi kites nesting in New Hampshire, Kevin the sandhill crane that overwintered in Rollinsford, far from its normal Midwestern habitat, and flew away in the spring, or the poor great black hawk, native to Central and South America, that showed up in Portland, Maine this winter and eventually succumbed to the elements. This chukar is far from home. I wish it well.
