Crowley, one of the last of the Irish machine politicians, had safely sailed to reelection to the House for a decade, often without even a primary challenger. I probably don’t talk about Falmouth enough. As an Outer Cape person, it seems about as close as Boston does, which keeps me from birding it very much. And Falmouth lacks the exciting seabirding and the history of rare birds of the Outer Cape. But a couple of very unusual sightings of seriously lost west coast birds has Falmouth on my mind.

Mark Curtis, a carpenter, created a bubbling water fountain from a column-shaped, 4-foot high stone with a pre-cut hole the couple found at Sonoma Materials, a landscaping supply business.

"From my 17 years working with people who feed birds as part of citizen science projects, I've heard a great deal about their impactful observations at their feeders," said co-author David Bonter, director of Citizen Science at the Cornell Lab of Ornithology. "This study provides important information about the breadth and pattern of these experiences through responses of over 1,000 participants. The findings will help us at Project Feederwatch improve how we work with bird watchers toward our shared goal of bird conservation."

The Monterey model will present a modern coastal feeling with light grey and white backgrounds, walnut accents, and warm grey oak flooring.  The clean-lined interior will feature reversed-soffit ceiling details in the living areas.  The home’s entry sequence will include lush landscaping and a soothing water feature.  A double-door will open to a foyer with a two-story ceiling, an open staircase leading to the upstairs, a powder bath, and an elevator.  The foyer will also provide points of entry to a private VIP guest suite, a walk-in pantry and laundry room with built-in cabinetry and a second refrigerator, and the three-car garage.  A sitting room situated between the foyer and the great room will feature a reverse soffit ceiling and a view of the glass encased walk-in wine room. 

Anywhere else, a horse trough might conjure up an image of thirsty livestock. But the village's landmark looks more like an ornate fountain appearing on postcards and repurposed as a seasonal flower bed in the center of the road at Crescent Boulevard and Main Street.

I also thought about the hundreds of pounds of assorted bird seed I’d poured into that feeder over the years. The darned grackles and freeloading squirrels aside, the money was well-spent. It has been a most-entertaining and long-running nature show.
